Grounded in an intuitive, meditative process, Barthès' works are an exploration of the matter and energy that create form - an honest experiment at visually presenting the unseen mechanics of nature. Her flat, bold, primary color palette, architectural patterns, and suggestive hieroglyphics meet at a junction of art and science, freedom and restraint.
Born in Nigeria in 1959, Barthès has lived and traveled around the globe. After graduating in 1994 from Wimbledon School of Art at the University of London, she spent a decade living and working in the South of France where she established herself as an abstract artist, teacher, and theater set designer. Barthès moved to Chicago in 2009 and has been consumed by her exploration of “energy molecules”, now deeply inspired by the urban origami and Bauhaus lineage of the city she calls home.
