Rena Son has been featured as an emerging artist who displays mature and bold professionalism in her presentation. Born in Daejun in 1981, Son completed her BFA in Painting and Drawing through Kookmin University in 2005. Her first solo exhibition in Seoul introduced her colorful abstract paintings. She has continued with this style to this day. Son’s recent endeavors have depicted her symbols of positivity in a New York gallery in 2014. Additionally, she has participated in Art Basel in Miami.
Son's art presentation has been very active since her sold out show in the World Fair in Dubai. Her successful art career continued at her major solo exhibition at Gana Art Center including her 8 meter long painting “Arete.” Arete refers to her inner desire to paint horses. Son uses the symbolic rare figurative and mythical animal shape and applies it to her unique horse depiction in her abstract colorful paintings.
She interpreted Arete to Keelin as the focus on Duck (Virtue) and Yin (Benevolence) of Chinese Confucianism. Son’s colorful expressionism is intrinsically based on traditional oil painting and mixed media with resin and plastics. Son conspicuously recreated her own style based upon traditional subject matter bringing it forward co-mingling with contemporary images using a modern aesthetic process.
